Letter of Recommendation Portal

We are pleased to offer the Letter of Recommendation Portal (LoR Portal) Version 1.0 this year to allow for direct upload of letters of recommendation.  This new tool is designed to reduce the scanning and uploading burden for medical schools while providing added flexibility for LoR Authors.

New Letter of Recommendation (LoR) Portal Process

Letter of Recommendation authors will have two options for getting their letters into the ERAS system: they may either a) use the new LoR Portal; or b) send the letter to the medical school for processing.

Here’s the New Process for LoR Authors Uploading Own Letter(s):

  1. Applicant accesses MyERAS to create LoR Authors in the system.
  2. Applicant prints out LoR Request Form for all LoR Authors  and delivers by email, regular mail or in person.
  3. If the applicant has waived his/her right to see the letter, please do not allow them to handle the completed letter. LoR Author completes letter of recommendation; saves in .pdf format; and accesses the online LoR Portal to upload letter.  LoR Author registers in the system and creates a username and password.
  4. LoR Author logs in using created username and password; enters LetterID for the applicant for whom the letter is being uploaded; verifies applicant and LoR Author details; and follows prompts to upload the letter in .pdf format.
  5. Letter is transmitted to the ERAS PostOffice.
  6. LoR Authors may view uploaded letters and new versions may be uploaded by logging back into system and clicking the appropriate link.

Medical schools and programs will see the letters in their software regardless of how the letter is uploaded to ERAS; however, should an Author want to upload a new version of a letter, it will be prepended to the original letter allowing programs and medical schools to view the most recent version of the letter first.

Here’s the new process for medical school staff uploading on behalf of LoR Author(s):

  1. Applicant accesses MyERAS to create LoR Authors in the system.
  2. Applicant prints out LoR Instruction Sheet for all LoR Authors and delivers by email, regular mail, or in person.
  3. If the applicant has waived his/her right to see the letter, please do not allow them to handle the completed letter.
  4. LoR Author completes letter of recommendation; and delivers to Administrator for processing.
  5. Administrator saves letter in .pdf format; and accesses the online LoR Portal to upload letter. Administrator registers in the system using own identification information and sets up own username and password.
  6. Administrator logs in using created username and password; enters LetterID for the letter that is being uploaded; verifies applicant and LoR Author details; and follows prompts to upload the letter in .pdf format.  Complete this step for each letter/LetterID combination that is provided.
  7. Letter(s) will be transmitted to the ERAS PostOffice upon each upload.
  8. Uploaded letters may be viewed and a new version may be uploaded by logging back into system and clicking the appropriate link.

Medical schools and programs will see the letters in their software regardless of how the letter is uploaded to ERAS; however, should an Author want to upload a new version of a letter, it will be prepended to the original letter allowing programs and medical schools will view the most recent version of the letter first.
